NEWARK, Del. – The West Chester Golden Rams put on an impressive showing Saturday afternoon, shutting out the Delaware Blue Hens, 25-0, in a non-union women’s rugby contest at the University of Delaware.
West Chester (4-1) began the scoring in the first half with a penalty kick by Whitney Hartshorne coming at the 6:31 mark. Katy Black then scored the first of her two trys on the afternoon, making the score 8-0 in the 38th minute.
The Golden Rams picked up the intensity in the second half with two Michelle Kirk trys to push the score to 18-0. Black then recorded her second try in the 69th minute, and a Hartshorne two-point conversion sealed the game for the visitors.
This loss drops Delaware to 4-1.
Hartshorne finished the day with a penalty kick and a two-point conversion for five points in the contest. Black and Kirk each recorded two trys to finish with 10 points.
The Golden Rams will look to continue their success when they head to Annanpolis, Md. For the North-South tournament next Saturday.
